25 July 2023

In a heartfelt tribute to the late Ashley McKay OAM, a visionary advocate for rural Australia, the Australian Horizons Foundation (AHF) and Property Rights Australia (PRA) have joined forces to establish the Ashley McKay Memorial Bursary. This remarkable initiative aims to provide financial support and academic opportunities to individuals committed to the advancement of the Australian agriculture industry and the prosperity of rural communities. The bursary, which will be awarded to two deserving individuals annually, seeks to create pathways for aspiring leaders and advocates while honouring Ashley McKay’s enduring legacy.

The collaboration between the Australian Horizons Foundation and Property Rights Australia exemplifies a shared commitment to fostering education and supporting rural communities. AHF, renowned for its dedication to empowering rural Australian regions, raises funds through its major raffles program to support community groups and charities focused on rural development. Chair and co-founder, John Bethel, expressed the Foundation’s belief in the transformative power of education and their enthusiasm for partnering with PRA in administering the bursary.

Jim Willmott, Chairman of Property Rights Australia, conveyed his organisation’s deep sense of honour in working with the Australian Horizons Foundation on this important endeavour. He emphasised the bursary’s role in identifying future leaders with a passion for agricultural studies and nurturing advocates who will champion the interests of the rural sector.
